HPV 18
Presence of hpv 18 may be useful in predicting invasive cervical cancer if a Pap smear shows abnormal cells indicative of cervical dysplasia.
There are about thirty types of this virus that is sexually transmitted of which some could lead to dysplasia or cancer. The only way to determine if dysplasia is present is by swabbing the cervix to get a sample of cells to be tested for abnormalities or by a biopsy.
