Contracting HPV
Contracting hpv is very likely if exposed to the virus, often showing up as an ASCUS reading on a pap smear and if left untreated may develop into cervical cancer.
There exist about 100 types of human papillomavirus, but only several of them are really dangerous and cause genital warts and cervical dysplasia and cancer. This infection can be spread only if the virus is active, but in some people it becomes latent and suppressed.

There is no way to avoid becoming infected with human papillomavirus. Condoms offer very little protection, besides, human papillomavirus can be spread through skin-to-skin contact. The majority of infected people have no symptoms of the disease.
