Human Papillomavirus Infection
A human papillomavirus infection can have no symptoms, but sometimes patients complain on abnormal vaginal discharge and pain; lichen sclerosis can occur in severe cases.
The majority of cervical cancer cases are in women who have not had a pap smear in five or more years. Most women do not develop cervical cancer even though they have been exposed and have more than one type of HPV, including several “high-risk” types.
